حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ مَعْنٍ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ

شَامَمْتُ أَصْحَابَ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ فَوَجَدْتُ عِلْمَهُمُ انْتَهَى إِلَى سِتَّةٍ إِلَى عُمَرَ وَعَلِيٍّ وَعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَأَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ وَزَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ثُمَّ شَامَمْتُ السِّتَّةَ فَوَجَدْتُ عِلْمَهُمُ انْتَهَى إِلَى عَلِيٍّ وَعَبْدِ اللهِ

Translation

✧ I examined the Companions of Muḥammad ﷺ and found that their knowledge ended with six: ʿUmar, ʿAlī, ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd, Abū al-Dardāʾ, and Zayd b. Thābit. Then I examined the six and found that their knowledge ended with ʿAlī and ʿAbdullāh.
