حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

«مَنْ يُرَائِي يُرَائِي اللهُ بِهِ وَمَنْ يُسَمِّعْ يُسَمِّعِ اللهُ بِهِ وَمَنْ تَطَاوَلَ تَعَظُّمًا يَخْفِضْهُ اللهُ وَمَنْ تَوَاضَعَ تَخَشُّعًا يَرْفَعْهُ اللهُ وَالنَّاسُ مُوَسَّعٌ عَلَيْهِ فِي الدُّنْيَا مَقْتُورٌ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرَةِ وَمَقْتُورٌ عَلَيْهِ فِي الدُّنْيَا مُوَسَّعٌ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرَةِ وَمَقْتُورٌ عَلَيْهِ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَمُوَسَّعٌ عَلَيْهِ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَمُسْتَرِيحٌ وَمُسْتَرَاحٌ مِنْهُ» قُلْنَا يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مَا الْمُسْتَرِيحُ وَالْمُسْتَرَاحُ مِنْهُ؟ قَالَ «أَمَا الْمُسْتَرِيحُ فَالْمُؤْمِنُ إِذَا مَاتَ اسْتَرَاحَ وَأَمَّا الْمُسْتَرَاحُ مِنْهُ فَهُوَ الَّذِي يَظْلِمُ النَّاسَ وَيَغْتَابُهُمْ»

✧ “Whoever shows off, Allah will expose him; whoever seeks to be heard of, Allah will make him heard of; whoever acts arrogantly out of pride, Allah will abase him; and whoever humbles himself out of humility, Allah will raise him. People are either given ample provision in this world but constrained in the Hereafter, constrained in this world but given ample provision in the Hereafter, constrained in both this world and the Hereafter, or given ample provision in both this world and the Hereafter. And there is one who finds rest and one from whom rest is found.” We said: “O Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, what is the one who finds rest and the one from whom rest is found?” He said: “As for the one who finds rest, he is the believer; when he dies, he finds rest. As for the one from whom rest is found, he is the one who wrongs people and backbites them.”
