حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ثنا قُطْبَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ قَالَ

كُنَّا فِي دَارِ أَبِي مُوسَى مَعَ نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُمْ يَنْظُرُونَ فِي مُصْحَفٍ فَقَامَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فَقَالَ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ «مَا أَعْلَمُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَرَكَ بَعْدَهُ أَحَدًا أَعْلَمُ بِمَا أَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ مِنْ هَذَا الْقَائِمِ» فَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى «أَمَا لِأَنْ قُلْتَ ذَاكَ لَقَدْ كَانَ يَشْهَدُ إِذَا غِبْنَا وَيُؤْذَنُ لَهُ إِذَا حُجِبْنَا»

✧ We were in the house of Abu Musa with a group of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and they were looking into a mushaf. ʿAbd Allah stood up, and Abu Masʿud said: "I do not know of anyone left after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ more knowledgeable of what Allah, Exalted is He, revealed than this standing one." Abu Musa said: "Since you have said that, he used to witness when we were absent and be granted permission when we were screened."
