وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ قَالَ

كُنْتُ جَالِسًا مَعَ حُذَيْفَةَ وَأَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا لِصَاحِبِهِ هَلْ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ حَدِيثَ كَذَا وَكَذَا؟ فَقَالَ لَا فَقَالَ لَهُ الْآخَرُ فَأَنْتَ سَمِعْتَهُ؟ فَقَالَ لَا فَقَالَ فَإِنَّ صَاحِبَ هَذَا الدَّارِ يَزْعُمُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى «لَئِنْ فَعَلَ إِنْ كَانَ لَيَدْخُلُ إِذَا حُجِبْنَا وَيَشْهَدُ إِذَا غِبْنَا» قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ الْأَعْمَشُ «عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ يَعْنِي»

✧ I was sitting with Hudhayfah and Abu Musa al-Ashʿari, and one of them said to his companion: "Did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say such-and-such a hadith?" He said: "No." The other said to him: "Then did you hear it?" He said: "No." He said: "Then the occupant of this house claims that he heard it." Abu Musa said: "If he did, he used to enter when we were screened, and witness when we were absent." Sulayman al-Aʿmash said: "He means ʿAbd Allah b. Masʿud."
