✧ By Allah, I did not marry her when I married her out of desire for wealth or children, but I wanted her to tell me about ʿUmar’s night. So he asked her: How was ʿUmar’s prayer at night? She said: He would pray ʿatamah, then he would order us to place a basin of water at his head and cover it. He would wake during the night, put his hand in the water, wipe his face and hands, then remember Allah Almighty as much as he willed. Then he would wake again several times until he came to the hour in which he would stand for his prayer. Ibn Buraydah said to him: Who told you this? He said: The daughter of ʿUthmān b. Abī al-ʿĀṣ told me. He said: Trustworthy, by Allah.
