حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبَانَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ الْفَرَّاءُ الْمِصِّيصِيُّ قَالَا ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيِّ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ الْمَكِّيِّ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ
نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ {إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا} فَدَعَا الْحَسَنَ وَالْحُسَيْنَ وَفَاطِمَةَ فَأَجْلَسَهُمْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَدَعَا عَلِيًّا فَأَجْلَسَهُ خَلْفَ ظَهْرِهِ وَتَجَلَّلَ هُوَ وَهُمْ بِالْكِسَاءِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ هَؤُلَاءِ أَهْلُ بَيْتِي فَأَذْهِبْ عَنْهُمُ الرِّجْسَ وَطَهِّرْهُمْ تَطْهِيرًا» فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ فَقَالَ «وَأَنْتِ مَكَانَكِ وَأَنْتِ عَلَى خَيْرٍ»

✧ This verse was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in the house of Umm Salamah: {Indeed, Allah only intends to remove from you impurity, O people of the household, and to purify you with thorough purification.} He called al-Hasan, al-Husayn, and Fatimah and seated them in front of him, and he called Ali and seated him behind his back. Then he and they were covered with the cloak. Then he said, "O Allah, these are my household, so remove impurity from them and purify them thoroughly." Umm Salamah said, "Am I with them, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "You stay in your place, and you are upon good."
