حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْخَلَّالُ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْعَدَنِيُّ ثنا فَرَجُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبْيَضَ بْنِ حَمَّالٍ الْمَازِنِيُّ السَّبَئِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي ثَابِتُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبْيَضَ بْنِ حَمَّالٍ أَنَّ سَعِيدَ بْنَ أَبْيَضَ بْنِ حَمَّالٍ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَبْيَضَ بْنِ حَمَّالٍ
أَنَّهُ كَلَّمَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الصَّدَقَةِ حِينَ وَفِدَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَدِينَةَ فَقَالَ «يَا أَخَا سَبَأٍ لَا بُدَّ مِنْ صَدَقَةٍ» قَالَ إِنَّمَا زَرَعْنَا الْقُطْنَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَدْ تَبَدَّدَتْ سَبَأٌ وَلَمْ يَبْقَ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ بِمَأْرِبَ فَصَالَحَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ أَبْيَضَ بْنَ حَمَّالٍ عَلَى سَبْعِينَ حُلَّةً مِنْ أَوْفَى قِيمَةِ بَزِّ الْمَعَافِرِ كُلَّ سَنَةٍ عَمَّنْ بَقِيَ مِنْ سَبَأٍ بِمَأْرِبَ فَلَمْ يَزَالُوا يُؤَدُّونَهَا حَتَّى قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

✧ He spoke to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the sadaqah when he came to him as a delegate in Madinah, and he said, “O brother of Saba', there must be a sadaqah.” He said, “We only grew cotton, O Messenger of Allah. Saba' has scattered, and none remain of them except a few in Ma'rib.” So the Prophet of Allah ﷺ made a peace agreement with Abyad b. Hammal for seventy suits of the finest value of the Ma'afir garments every year on behalf of those who remained of Saba' in Ma'rib, and they continued to pay it until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died.
