حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ أنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ زَحْرٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ؓ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمًا «مَنْ يُبَايِعُ؟» فَقَالَ ثَوْبَانُ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَامَ نُبَايِعُ؟ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ بَايَعْنَاكَ مَرَّةً يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «عَلَى أَنْ لَا تَسْأَلُوا أَحَدًا شَيْئًا» قَالَ ثَوْبَانُ فَمَا لَهُ بِهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «الْجَنَّةُ» فَبَايَعَهُ ثَوْبَانُ قَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ «فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ بِمَكَّةَ فِي أَجْمَعَ مَا يَكُونُ النَّاسُ يَسْقُطُ سَوْطُهُ وَهُوَ رَاكِبٌ فَرُبَّمَا وَقَعَ عَلَى عَاتِقِ رَجُلٍ فَيَأْخُذُهُ الرَّجُلُ فَيُنَاوِلُهُ فَمَا يَأْخُذُهُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ هُوَ الَّذِي يَنْزِلُ فَيَأْخُذَهُ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said one day, “Who will pledge allegiance?” Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said, “Upon what shall we pledge? Have we not already pledged allegiance to you once, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “Upon not asking anyone for anything.” Thawban said, “And what is for him in that, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “Paradise.” So Thawban pledged allegiance to him. Abu Umamah said, “I saw him in Makkah at the time when people were most crowded: his whip would fall while he was riding, and perhaps it would fall on a man’s shoulder; the man would pick it up and hand it to him, but he would not take it until he himself dismounted and picked it up.”
