✧ What brought you? I said: 'I came seeking knowledge.' He said: 'Indeed I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: «There is no one who goes out from his house in pursuit of knowledge except that the angels lower their wings for him, pleased with what he does.» I said: 'I came to ask you about wiping over the leather socks.' He said: 'Yes. I was in the army that the Messenger of God ﷺ sent, and he commanded us to wipe over the leather socks when we had put them on in a state of purity—three when we travel and one night when we reside, and we do not remove them due to defecation, urine, or sleep, and we do not remove them except due to major impurity.' He said: 'And I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: «There is a gate in the west open for repentance, a journey of seventy years, that will not be closed until the sun rises from its west.»'
