حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ صَفْوَانَ بْنَ أُمَيَّةَ قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ فَنَامَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَوَضَعَ خَمِيصَةً لَهُ تَحْتَ رَأْسِهِ فَأَتَاهُ سَارِقٌ فَسَرَقَهَا فَجِيءَ بِهِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ أَنْ يُقْطَعَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هِيَ لَهُ قَالَ «فَهَلَّا قَبْلَ أَنْ تَأْتِيَنِي بِهِ؟»

✧ Safwan b. Umayyah came to Madinah and slept in the mosque, placing a khamisah of his under his head. A thief came and stole it. He was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and he ordered that his hand be cut. He said, 'O Messenger of God, it is his.' He said, 'Why not before you brought him to me?'
