حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ

قِيلَ لِصَفْوَانَ إِنَّهُ مَنْ لَمْ يُهَاجِرْ فَقَدْ هَلَكَ فَدَعَا بِرَاحِلَتِهِ فَرَكِبَهَا فَأَتَى الْمَدِينَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا جَاءَ بِكَ يَا أَبَا وَهْبٍ؟» قَالَ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّهُ لَا دِينَ لِمَنْ لَا هِجْرَةَ لَهُ قَالَ ارْجِعْ إِلَى أَبَاطِحِ مَكَّةَ فَرَجَعَ فَدَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَتَوَسَّدَ رِدَاءَهُ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَسَرَقَ فَأَتَى بِهِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ سَرَقَ هَذَا رِدَائِي فَأَمَرَ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَطَعَهُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَمْ يَبْلُغْ رِدَائِي مَا يُقْطَعُ فِيهِ يَدُ رَجُلٍ قَدْ جَعَلْتُهَا صَدَقَةً عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فَهَلَّا قَبْلَ أَنْ تَأْتِيَنِي بِهِ؟»

✧ It was said to Safwan, 'Whoever does not emigrate has perished.' So he called for his mount, rode it, and came to Madinah. The Messenger of God ﷺ said to him, 'What has brought you, Abu Wahb?' He said, 'I have heard that there is no religion for one who has no emigration.' He said, 'Return to the valleys of Makkah.' So he returned and entered the mosque, and he placed his cloak under his head as a pillow. A man came and stole it, and he was brought to the Prophet ﷺ. He said, 'O Messenger of God, this man stole my cloak.' The Prophet ﷺ ordered that he be punished by cutting. He said, 'O Messenger of God, my cloak did not reach the value for which a man's hand is cut; I have given it to him as charity.' The Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Why not before you brought him to me?'
