al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (al-Tabarani) 7209

✧ Explanation of the name and lineage of Shurahbil b. Hasana, his father's name is Shuf'ah and his mother's name is Hasana, and it is said that she is from Harid. He is also known as Abu Abdullah b. al-Ghawth b. Mur, the brother of Tamim b. Mur, from those who migrated to the land of Habasha (Ethiopia), and he settled in Sham (Syria), and he is from the tribe of Banu Najih.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا هَمَّامٌ ثنا قَتَادَةُ وَمَطَرٌ الْوَرَّاقُ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ غَنْمٍ قَالَ وَقَعَ الطَّاعُونُ بِالشَّامِ فَخَطَبَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا الطَّاعُونَ رِجْسٌ فَفِرُّوا مِنْهُ فِي الْأَوْدِيَةِ وَالشِّعَابِ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ شُرَحْبِيلَ ابْنَ حَسَنَةَ فَقَالَ

كَذَبَ عَمْرٌو صَحِبْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَعَمْرٌو أَضَلُّ مِنْ حِمَارِ أَهْلِهِ «وَلَكِنَّهُ رَحْمَةُ رَبِّكُمْ وَدَعْوَةُ نَبِيِّكُمْ وَوَفَاةُ الصَّالِحِينَ قَبْلَكُمْ»

✧ ʿAmr lied. I accompanied the Messenger of God ﷺ, while ʿAmr is more astray than the donkey of his family. “Rather, it is a mercy from your Lord, the supplication of your Prophet, and the death of the righteous before you.”
