  1. Samurah b. Jundub

✧ The Prophet ﷺ used to say: “In this world there is no regret except in three cases: a man who had irrigation and a water-drawing camel with which he watered his land. When his land’s thirst became severe and its fruits emerged, his camel died, and he feels regret for the camel that he had trained to draw water, since he will not find its like, and he feels regret for the fruit of his land, lest it spoil before he can contrive a plan for it. And a man who had a swift horse and met a gathering of disbelievers. When they drew near to one another, the enemies of God fled, and the man raced ahead on his horse. But when he was about to catch up, his horse broke down and left him standing beside it, so he feels regret for his horse, since he will not find its like, and he feels regret for the victory that had been within his reach. And a man who has a wife whose appearance and religion please him, and she gives birth to a boy but dies in childbirth. He feels regret for his wife, thinking he will never find her like, and he feels regret for her child, fearing that he will perish neglected before he can find a wet-nurse for him.” He said: “And this last is the greatest of those regrets.”
