✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us one day, and whenever he prayed, he would turn to face us and say: "Did any of you see a dream last night?" If any of us had seen a dream, he would relate it to him, and he would say about it whatever Allah willed. One day he asked us: "Did any of you see a dream?" We said: "No." The Prophet ﷺ said: "I saw two men who came to me, took me by the hand, and brought me out to a level land, or an open space. I passed by a man while another man was standing at his head with an iron hook in his hand, which he inserted into one side of his mouth and tore it until it reached the back of his neck, then he did the same with the other side of his mouth. Meanwhile the first side of his mouth healed, and he returned and did the same thing again. I said: 'What is this?' They said: 'Move on.' So we moved on until we came to a man lying on his back, with another man standing at his head holding a boulder or a large stone, with which he crushed his head. When he struck him, the stone rolled away, and he went to retrieve it, but by the time he returned to him, his head had healed and become as it was before. He went back and struck him again, and he continued doing that to him. I said: 'What is this?' They said: 'Move on.' So we moved on until we came to a structure built like a tannur (oven), narrow at the top and wide at the bottom, with a fire burning beneath it. Inside were naked men and women. When the fire was kindled beneath it, they rose up until they almost came out of it, and when it was extinguished, they went back down into it. I said: 'What is this?' They said: 'Move on.' So we moved on until we came to a river of blood, with a man standing in the middle of the river and another man in front of him with stones. Whenever the man in the river tried to come out, the man threw a stone into his mouth and forced him back to where he had been. I said: 'What is this?' They said: 'Move on.' So we moved on until we came to a green meadow, in which there was a great tree, and at its base was an old man surrounded by children and women, and a man near the tree with a fire in front of him which he was kindling and stoking. I asked the two of them about it, and they said: 'Move on.' So we moved on until we came to the tree, and they brought me into a dwelling, and I had never seen a dwelling more beautiful than it. In it were old men, young men, children, and women. Then they climbed the tree and brought me into another dwelling which was even more beautiful and better than the first, containing old men and young men. I said to them: 'You have taken me around since last night and have been kind to me, so tell me about what I have seen.' They said: 'Yes. As for the first man you saw, he was a liar who used to tell a lie, and it would be carried from him until it reached the horizons, so what you saw will be done to him until the Day of Resurrection. As for the man whose head was being crushed, he was a man whom Allah had taught the Qur'an, but he slept through it at night and did not act upon it during the day, so what you saw will be done to him until the Day of Resurrection. As for those you saw in the structure, they are the adulterers of this community. As for the one you saw in the river of blood, he is the one who consumes usury. As for the old man you saw at the base of the tree, that is Ibrahim ﷺ. As for the children you saw, they are the offspring of mankind. As for the fire you saw and the man kindling it, that is the Fire and its keeper. As for the first dwelling you entered, it is the dwelling of 'A'ishah, the Mother of the Believers. As for this one, it is the dwelling of the martyrs. I am Jibril, and this is Mika'il.' I said to them: 'Tell me, where is my dwelling?' They said: 'Raise your head.' So I raised my head, and there above me was something like a cloud. They said: 'That is your dwelling.' I said: 'Let me enter my dwelling.' They said: 'You still have some work remaining that you have not yet completed. When you have completed it, you will enter your dwelling.'"
