حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيِّ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ قَالَ
أَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ «هَهُنَا مِنْ بَنِي فُلَانٍ أَحَدٌ؟» فَسَكَتَ الْقَوْمُ وَكَانَ إِذَا ابْتَدَأَهُمْ بِشَيْءٍ سَكَتُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ «هَهُنَا مِنْ بَنِي فُلَانٍ أَحَدٌ؟» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ هَذَا فُلَانٌ قَالَ «إِنَّ صَاحِبَكُمْ مَحْبُوسٌ دُونَ الْجَنَّةِ بِدَيْنِهِ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ عَلَيَّ دَيْنُهُ

✧ One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to the people and said, “Is there anyone here from Banu so-and-so?” The people remained silent, and whenever he began something with them they would remain silent. Then he said, “Is there anyone here from Banu so-and-so?” A man from the people said, “This is so-and-so.” He said, “Indeed, your companion is being held short of Paradise because of his debt.” A man from the people said, “His debt is upon me.”
