حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُزَيْقِ بْنِ جَامِعٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ ثنا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ثنا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى السَّيْنَائِيُّ عَنِ الْجُعَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ إِذْ جَاءَهُ الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ وَفِي وَجْهِهِ أَثَرُ السُّجُودِ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ قَالَ «مَنْ هَذَا؟» قِيلَ الزُّبَيْرُ قَالَ
«لَقَدْ أَفْسَدَ هَذَا وَجْهَهُ أَمَا وَاللهِ مَا هِيَ السِّيمَاءُ الَّتِي سَمَّاهَا اللهُ وَلَقَدْ صَلَّيْتُ عَلَى وَجْهِي ثَمَانِينَ سَنَةً مَا أَثَّرَ السُّجُودُ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيَّ»

✧ “This man has spoiled his face. By God, that is not the mark that God has named. I have prostrated on my face for eighty years, and prostration has not left a trace between my eyes.”
