حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ابْنِ أُخْتِ النَّمِرِ بْنِ قَاسِطٍ
«أَنَّ النِّدَاءَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ كَانَ أَوَّلُهُ إِذَا جَلَسَ الْإِمَامُ وَإِذَا قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ ؓ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ عُثْمَانُ ؓ وَكَثُرَ النَّاسُ فَزَادَ النِّدَاءَ الثَّالِثَ عَلَى الزَّوْرَاءِ»

✧ The call to prayer on Friday originally began when the imam sat down and when the prayer was about to begin, in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, and ʿUmar ؓ. But when it was the time of ʿUthman ؓ and the people became numerous, he added the third call at al-Zawra'.
