حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ نَجْدَةَ الْحَوْطِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الذَّهَبِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ
«مَا كَانَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا مُؤَذِّنٌ وَاحِدٌ لَمْ يَكُنْ يُؤَذِّنُ لَهُ غَيْرُهُ فَكَانُ إِذَا جَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَذَّنَ عَلَى بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَإِذَا نَزَلَ أَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ ثُمَّ كَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ كَذَلِكَ ثُمَّ كَانَ عُمَرُ ؓ كَذَلِكَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ عُثْمَانُ كَثُرَ النَّاسُ فَأَمَرَ بِالنِّدَاءِ الْأَوَّلِ بِالسُّوقِ عَلَى دَارٍ لَهُ يُقَالُ لَهَا الزَّوْرَاءُ فَكَانَ يُؤَذَّنُ لَهُ عَلَيْهَا فَإِذَا جَلَسَ عُثْمَانُ ؓ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ أَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنُهُ الْأَوَّلُ فَإِذَا نَزَلَ أَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had only one muezzin; no one else called the adhan for him. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat on the pulpit on Friday, he called the adhan at the door of the mosque, and when he descended, he made the iqamah. Then Abu Bakr ؓ did likewise, then ʿUmar ؓ did likewise, until the time of ʿUthman. When the people became numerous, he ordered the first call to be made in the market on a house of his called al-Zawra'. The adhan was called for him on it, and when ʿUthman ؓ sat on the pulpit, his muezzin called the first adhan, and when he descended, he made the iqamah.
