حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ الْجُهَنِيِّ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ
أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُمْ خَرَجُوا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ حَتَّى نَزَلُوا عُسْفَانَ مُهِلِّينَ بِالْحَجِّ وَقَامَ إِلَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي مُدْلِجٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكِ بْنِ جُعْشُمٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ اقْضِ لَنَا قَضَاءَ قَوْمٍ كَأَنَّمَا وُلِدُوا الْيَوْمَ قَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ قَدْ أَدْخَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي حَجَّتِكُمْ هَذِهِ عُمْرَةً فَإِذَا أَنْتُمْ قَدِمْتُمْ فَمَنْ يَطُوفُ بِالْبَيْتِ وَبَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَقَدْ أَحَلَّ إِلَّا مَنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ هَدْيٌ» فَلَمَّا أَحْلَلْنَا قَالَ «اسْتَمْتِعُوا مِنْ هَذِهِ النِّسَاءِ» وَالِاسْتِمْتَاعُ عِنْدَنَا التَّزْوِيجُ فَعَرَضْنَا ذَلِكَ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ فَأَبَيْنَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَضْرِبْنَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُنَّ أَجَلًا فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «افْعَلُوا» فَخَرَجْتُ أَنَا وَابْنُ عَمٍّ لِي وَمَعِي بُرْدٌ وَمَعَهُ بُرْدٌ وَبُرْدُهُ أَجْوَدُ مِنْ بُرْدِي وَأَنَا أَشَبُّ مِنْهُ فَأَتَيْنَا امْرَأَةً فَأَعْجَبَهَا بُرْدُهُ وَأَعْجَبَهَا سِمَاتِي ثُمَّ صَارَ شَأْنُهَا أَنْ قَالَتْ هَاتِ بُرْدَكَ وَكَانَ الْأَجَلُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهَا عَشْرًا فَبِتُّ عِنْدَهَا ثُمَّ أَصْبَحْتُ فَخَرَجْتُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَائِمٌ بَيْنَ الرُّكْنِ وَالْبَابِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ كُنْتُ أَذِنْتُ لَكُمْ فِي الِاسْتِمْتَاعِ مِنْ هَذِهِ النِّسَاءِ أَلَا وَإِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ قَدْ حَرَّمَ ذَلِكَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ فَمَنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ مِنْهُنَّ شَيْءٌ فَلْيُخَلِّ سَبِيلَهَا وَلَا تَأْخُذُوا مِمَّا آتَيْتُمُوهُنَّ شَيْئًا»

✧ He informed him that they set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for the Farewell Pilgrimage until they stopped at ʿUsfān, entering consecration for ḥajj. A man from Banū Mudlij called Surāqah b. Mālik b. Juʿshum stood before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of Allah, decide for us as you would for a people as if they were born today.” He said, “Allah ﷻ has included an ʿumrah for you in this ḥajj of yours. So when you arrive, whoever circumambulates the House and between al-Ṣafā and al-Marwah has exited consecration, except whoever has a sacrificial animal with him.” Then when we exited consecration, he said, “Enjoy these women.” Enjoyment among us meant marriage. We proposed that to the women, but they refused unless they set a term between us and them. That was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “Do it.” So I went out with a cousin of mine; I had a cloak and he had a cloak, and his cloak was better than mine while I was more youthful than him. We came to a woman, and she liked his cloak and she liked my appearance. Then the matter came to her saying, “Give me your cloak.” The term between me and her was ten days. I spent the night with her, then in the morning I went out to the mosque. There was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ standing between the corner and the door, saying, “O people, I had permitted you enjoyment of these women. Indeed, Allah ﷻ has forbidden that until the Day of Resurrection. So whoever has any of them with him, let him let her go, and do not take back anything of what you have given them.”
