حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الرَّقِّيُّ ثنا أَبُو غَسَّانَ مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ عَنْ أَبِيهَا سُوَيْدِ بْنِ حَنْظَلَةَ قَالَ
خَرَجْنَا نُرِيدُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَعَنَا وَائِلُ بْنُ حُجْرٍ فَأَخَذَهُ عَدُوٌّ لَهُ فَتَحَرَّجَ الْقَوْمُ أَنْ يَحْلِفُوا وَحَلَفْتُ أَنَا أَنَّهُ أَخِي فَخُلِّيَ سَبِيلُهُ فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ الْقَوْمَ تَحَرَّجُوا أَنْ يَحْلِفُوا وَحَلَفْتُ أَنَّهُ أَخِي فَقَالَ «صَدَقْتَ الْمُسْلِمُ أَخُو الْمُسْلِمِ»

✧ We set out intending to go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Wa'il b. Hujr was with us. An enemy of his seized him. The people were reluctant to take an oath, but I swore that he was my brother, so he was released. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "The people were reluctant to take an oath, so I swore that he was my brother." He said, "You have spoken the truth. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim."
