حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا حَرْبُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الطَّحَّانُ ثنا الْمُطَّلِبُ بْنُ زِيَادَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ أَبِي لَيْلَى قَالَ
كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ فِي الْأَرَاكِ فَدَخَلْنَا فَأَخَذْنَاهُ فَجَعَلَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ يَجِيئُونَهُ يُخْفُونَ سُيُوفَهُمْ حَتَّى جَاءُوا بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ «وَيْحَكَ يَا أَبَا سُفْيَانَ قَدْ جِئْتُكُمْ بِالدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ فَأَسْلِمُوا تَسْلَمُوا» وَكَانَ الْعَبَّاسُ لَهُ صَدِيقًا فَقَالَ لَهُ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ رَجُلٌ يُحِبُّ الصَّوْتَ فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِي بِمَكَّةَ «مَنْ أَغْلَقَ بَابَهُ فَهُوَ آمِنٌ وَمَنْ أَلْقَى سِلَاحَهُ فَهُوَ آمِنٌ وَمَنْ دَخَلَ دَارَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ فَهُوَ آمِنٌ» ثُمَّ بَعَثَ مَعَهُ الْعَبَّاسَ حَتَّى جَلَسَا عَلَى عَقَبَةِ الثَّنِيَّةِ فَأَقْبَلَتْ بَنُو سُلَيْمٍ فَقَالَ يَا عَبَّاسُ مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ؟ قَالَ هَذِهِ بَنُو سُلَيْمٍ فَقَالَ وَمَا أَنَا وَسَلِيمٌ؟ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ وَالْمُهَاجِرُونَ فَقَالَ يَا عَبَّاسُ مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ؟ قَالَ هَذَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ فِي الْمُهَاجِرِينَ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ يَا عَبَّاسُ مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ؟ قَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ الْمَوْتُ الْأَحْمَرُ هَذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ أَبُو سُفْيَانَ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتَ مُلْكَ كِسْرَى وَقَيْصَرَ فَمَا رَأَيْتُ مِثْلَ مُلْكِ ابْنِ أَخِيكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْعَبَّاسُ إِنَّمَا هِيَ النُّبُوَّةُ

✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ on the day of the conquest. He said, "Abu Sufyan is in the arak trees." So we entered and seized him. The Muslims kept coming to him, concealing their swords, until they brought him to the Messenger of God ﷺ. He said to him, "Woe to you, O Abu Sufyan! I have brought you the world and the Hereafter, so submit and you will be safe." Al-Abbas was his friend, so al-Abbas said, "O Messenger of God, Abu Sufyan is a man who loves renown." So the Messenger of God ﷺ sent a caller to announce in Makkah: "Whoever closes his door is safe, whoever lays down his weapon is safe, and whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe." Then he sent al-Abbas with him until they sat on the mountain pass. Banu Sulaym approached, and he said, "O Abbas, who are these?" He said, "These are Banu Sulaym." He said, "What do I have to do with Sulaym?" Then Ali b. Abi Talib ؓ and the Muhajirun approached, and he said, "O Abbas, who are these?" He said, "This is Ali b. Abi Talib among the Muhajirun." Then the Messenger of God ﷺ approached among the Ansar, and he said, "O Abbas, who are these?" He said, "These are the red death. This is the Messenger of God ﷺ among the Ansar." Abu Sufyan said, "I have seen the kingdom of Kisra and Caesar, but I have not seen the like of your nephew's kingdom." Al-Abbas said to him, "It is only prophethood."
