حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ السَّقَطِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ بَحْرٍ قَالَا ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ قَالَ

خَاصَمَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّينَ رَجُلًا مِنَّا يُقَالُ لَهُ الْحَفْشِيشُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي أَرْضٍ لَهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِلْحَضْرَمِيِّ «جِئْ بِشُهُودِكَ عَلَى حَقِّكَ وَإِلَّا حَلَفَ لَكَ» قَالَ لَهُ أَرْضِي أَعْظَمُ شَأْنًا مِنْ أَنْ لَا يَحْلِفَ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ يَمِينَ الْمُسْلِمِ مِنْ وَرَاءِ مَا هُوَ أَعْظَمُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ» فَانْطَلَقَ لِيَحْلِفَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «إِنْ هُوَ حَلَفَ كَاذِبًا أَدْخَلَهُ اللهُ ﷻ النَّارَ» فَانْطَلَقَ الْأَشْعَثُ فَأَخْبَرَهُ فَقَالَ أَصْلِحْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ فَأَصْلَحَ بَيْنَهُمَا

✧ A man of the Hadramis disputed with a man of ours called al-Hafshish before the Prophet ﷺ concerning a piece of land belonging to the latter. The Prophet ﷺ said to the Hadrami, 'Bring your witnesses to prove your right; otherwise, he will swear to you.' He said, 'My land is too great a matter for him not to swear concerning it.' The Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'The oath of a Muslim stands behind what is greater than that.' He went to swear, and the Prophet ﷺ said, 'If he swears falsely, God ﷻ will admit him to the Fire.' Al-Ash'ath went and informed him, and he said, 'Make peace between me and him.' So he made peace between them.
