حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا زُهَيْرٌ ثنا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ
جَاءَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْحَيِّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَمِعُوهُ يَقُولُ «لِيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَكْثَرُكُمْ قُرْآنًا» فَقَدَّمُونِي بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ فَكُنْتُ أَؤُمُّهُمْ فِي بُرْدَةٍ مَوْصُولَةٍ فَكَانَ فِيهَا فَتْقٌ فَكُنْتُ إِذَا سَجَدْتُ خَرَجَتِ اسْتِي فَقَالُوا لِأَبِي أَلَا تُغَطِّي عَنَّا اسْتَهُ؟ وَكُنْتُ أُرَغِّبُهُمْ فِي تَعْلِيمِ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ إِمَامَ قَوْمِهِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَعَلَى جَنَائِزِهِمْ
Translation

✧ A group of people from the tribe came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and heard him say, 'Let the one among you with the most Qur'an lead you.' So they put me forward, while I was a boy, and I led them in a patched burdah that had a tear. When I prostrated, my backside would show. They said to my father, 'Will you not cover his backside from us?' I encouraged them in teaching the Qur'an. Zuhayr said, 'He continued to be the imam of his people in prayer and over their funerals.'
