✧ A companion of mine and I went to Salman al-Farisi, and Salman said, "Were it not that the Messenger of God ﷺ forbade us from putting ourselves to trouble, I would have put myself to trouble for you." Then he brought bread and meat. My companion said, "Would that there were thyme in our salt." So Salman sent his water-skin and pawned it, then he brought thyme. When we had eaten it, my companion said, "Praise be to God who has given us enjoyment of what He provided us." Salman ؓ said, "If you had been content with what God provided you, my water-skin would not have been pawned."
