حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الثَّعْلَبِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَعْلَى عَنْ نَاصِحِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ وَصِيٌّ فَمَنْ وَصِيُّكَ؟ فَسَكَتَ عَنِّي فَلَمَّا كَانَ بَعْدُ رَآنِي فَقَالَ «يَا سَلْمَانُ» فَأَسْرَعْتُ إِلَيْهِ قُلْتُ لَبَّيْكَ قَالَ «تَعْلَمُ مَنْ وَصِيُّ مُوسَى؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ يُوشَعُ بْنُ نُونٍ قَالَ «لِمَ؟» قُلْتُ لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ أَعْلَمُهُمْ قَالَ «فَإِنَّ وَصِيِّ وَمَوْضِعُ سِرِّي وَخَيْرُ مَنْ أَتْرُكُ بَعْدِي وَيُنْجِزُ عِدَتِي وَيَقْضِي دَيْنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ» قَالَ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ قَوْلُهُ وَصِيِّ يَعْنِي أَنَّهُ أَوْصَاهُ فِي أَهْلِهِ لَا بِالْخِلَافَةِ وَقَوْلُهُ خَيْرُ مَنْ أَتْرُكُ بَعْدِي يَعْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ ﷺ

✧ I said: O Messenger of Allah, every prophet has a wasi (legatee/trustee); who is your wasi? He was silent. Later he saw me and said: "O Salman." I hastened to him and said: At your service. He said: "Do you know who Musa's wasi was?" I said: Yes, Yusha' b. Nun. He said: "Why?" I said: Because he was the most knowledgeable of them. He said: "My wasi, the keeper of my secret, the best of those I leave after me, who fulfills my promise and pays my debt, is 'Ali b. Abi Talib." Abu al-Qasim said: His saying "my wasi" means he entrusted him with his family, not with the caliphate; and his saying "the best of those I leave after me" means from his household ﷺ.
