✧ On the day of Khaybar, the Messenger of God ﷺ said: “I will give the banner tomorrow to a man through whom God will grant victory.” The people were wondering which of them would receive it. He said: “Where is ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib?” They said: “O Messenger of God, he is complaining of his eyes.” So they sent for him, and he was brought. The Messenger of God ﷺ spat into his eye and prayed for him, and he recovered as if he had had no pain. Then he gave him the banner. ʿAlī said: “O Messenger of God, shall I fight them until they become like us?” He said: “Go at your ease until you enter their courtyard, then call them to Islam and inform them of what is obligatory upon them of the rights of God. For God to guide one man through you is better than for you to have red camels.”
