حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُومُ إِلَى خَشَبَةٍ فَلَمَّا كَثُرَ النَّاسُ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ كَثُرُوا أَفَلَا نَتَّخِذُ لَكَ مِنْبَرًا تَقُومُ عَلَيْهِ فَإِنَّ الْجَائِي يَجِيءُ فَيَشْتَدُّ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ وَلَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنْكَ شَيْئًا فَأَمَرَ غُلَامًا لِلْأَنْصَارِ فَأَخَذَ مِنْ طَرْفَاءِ الْغَابَةِ فَجَعَلَ لَهُ هَذَا الْمِنْبَرَ فَلَمَّا جَلَسَ عَلَيْهِ حَنَّتِ الْخَشَبَةُ الَّتِي كَانَ يَقُومُ إِلَيْهَا فَجَاءَ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَيْهَا حَتَّى سَكَتَتْ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to stand by a tree trunk. When the number of people increased, they said: "O Messenger of Allah, the people have increased. Why not have a pulpit made for you to stand on? For the one who comes will find it difficult to go back without hearing anything from you." So he ordered a young servant of the Ansar, who took some tamarisk wood from al-Ghabah and made this pulpit for him. When he sat upon it, the tree trunk that he used to stand by lamented, so he came and placed his hand on it until it became silent.
