حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ ثنا أَبُو حَازِمٍ
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ يَقُولُ كُنْتُ فِي الْقَوْمِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَتَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي قَدْ وَهَبَتُ نَفْسِي لَكَ فَرَأْ فِيَّ رَأْيَكَ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ أَنْكِحْنِيهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ فِيهَا حَاجَةٌ قَالَ فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ قَامَتْ فَقَالَتْ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ أَنْكِحْنِيهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ فِيهَا حَاجَةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِلرَّجُلِ «هَلْ عِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ تُعْطِيهَا إِيَّاهُ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «فَاذْهَبْ فَاطْلُبْ شَيْئًا» فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا قَالَ «اذْهَبْ فَاطْلُبْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ» فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا وَلَا خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا قَالَ «اذْهَبْ فَقَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»

✧ He heard Sahl b. Saʿd say: I was among the people with the Prophet ﷺ when a woman came to him and said, “O Messenger of God, I have given myself to you, so consider me as you see fit.” A man stood up and said, “Marry her to me, O Messenger of God, if you have no need of her.” The Messenger of God ﷺ remained silent. Then she stood again and said the same thing, and the man said, “Marry her to me, O Messenger of God, if you have no need of her.” The Messenger of God ﷺ said to the man, “Do you have anything to give her?” He said, “No.” He said, “Go and look for something.” He went, then came back and said, “O Messenger of God, I did not find anything.” He said, “Go and look, even for an iron ring.” He went, then came back and said, “O Messenger of God, I did not find anything, not even an iron ring.” The Messenger of God ﷺ said, “Do you have any of the Qurʾān with you?” He said, “Yes, Sūrah so-and-so and Sūrah so-and-so.” He said, “Go, for I have married her to you for what you have of the Qurʾān.”
