حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ لُوَيْنٌ ثنا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ
«كُنَّا لَنَفْرَحُ بِيَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ» قُلْتُ لَهُ وَمَا ذَاكَ؟ قَالَ «كَانَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنِ الْحَيِّ تَتَّخِذُ السِّلْقَ فَتَصُبُّهُ عَلَى الشَّعِيرِ بَيْنَ الْخَلِّ فَإِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ نَزَعَتْ مِنْهُ بأُصُولِهِ وحَبَشَتْ عَلَيْهِ شَيْئًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلْتَهُ فِي قِدْرٍ لَهَا ثُمَّ أَدْخَلَتْهُ فِي تَنُّورِهَا فَقَدَّمَتْهُ إِلَيْنَا فَكُنَّا نُسَمِّيهِ السِّلْقَ الْغَرَّاقَ ونَلْعَقُ وَإِنْ كُنَّا لَنَفْرَحُ بِيَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ مِنْ أَجْلِ قِدْرِهَا وَكَانَتِ الْقَائِلَةُ لِلْغَدَاءِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ فِي زَمَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ»

✧ “We used to rejoice on Friday.” I said to him, “And what was that?” He said, “A woman of the tribe would take chard and pour it over barley with vinegar, and when Friday came she would pull it up by its roots and gather onto it some barley, then put it in a pot of hers, then insert it into her oven, and serve it to us. We used to call it ‘drowned chard’ and lick it, and we used to rejoice on Friday because of her pot; and the midday nap used to be for the midday meal on Friday, after the Friday prayer, in the time of the Prophet ﷺ.”
