حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الدِّمْيَاطِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ثنا اللَّيْثُ حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ
أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَقْبَلَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ بِبُرْدَةٍ فَقَالَتْ عَمِلْتُ هَذِهِ لَكَ بِيَدَيَّ فَقَبِلَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْهَا وَبِهِ حَاجَةٌ إِلَيْهَا فَاتَّزَرَهَا ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ اكْسُنِيهَا؟ فَقَالَ «نَعَمْ» فَأَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهَا قَالَ سَهْلٌ فَقُلْتُ لِلرَّجُلِ قَدْ رَأَيْتَ حَاجَةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَيْهَا ثُمَّ سَأَلْتَهَا؟ فَقَالَ قَدْ رَأَيْتُ مَا رَأَيْتُمْ وَلَكِنْ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أُخَبِّأَهَا حَتَّى أُكَفَّنَ فِيهَا فَكُفِّنَ فِيهَا

✧ He said: A woman came to the Messenger of God with a striped cloak and said: "I made this for you with my own hands." The Messenger of God ﷺ accepted it from her, and he needed it, so he wrapped it around himself as a waist wrapper. Then he went out, and a man among his companions said: "Give it to me to wear?" He said: "Yes." So he gave it to him. Sahl said: I said to the man: "You saw the Messenger of God's need for it, yet you asked for it?" He said: "I saw what you saw, but I wanted to keep it so that I might be shrouded in it." And he was shrouded in it.
