✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition he undertook. The people suffered severe hunger, so they asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for permission to slaughter some of their riding camels. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was about to grant them permission for that, when 'Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ said: "Consider, O Messenger of Allah, if we slaughter our riding camels and then meet our enemy tomorrow while we are hungry and on foot?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "What do you think, O 'Umar?" He said: "Call the people to bring the remnants of their provisions, then supplicate to Allah for us for blessing in them, for Allah ﷻ will surely suffice us through your supplication, if Allah wills." He said: "It was as if a covering had been upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and was removed." So he called for a cloth and ordered it to be spread. Then he called the people to bring the remnants of their provisions. They came with what they had; some people brought a large bowl of food or a handful, and some brought something like an egg. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered it to be placed on that cloth. Then he supplicated for blessing in it and spoke as Allah willed him to speak. Then he called out in the army, and they came. Then he ordered them, and they ate and were satisfied, and they filled their vessels and their provision bags. Then he called for a small water skin and placed it in front of him. Then he called for water and poured it into it. Then he spat into it and spoke as Allah willed him to speak. Then he inserted his little finger into it. I swear by Allah, I saw the fingers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gushing forth springs of water. Then he ordered the people, and they drank and gave water to their mounts and filled their water skins and their water vessels. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed until his molars appeared. Then he said: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. No one meets Allah with these two on the Day of Resurrection except that he enters Paradise, no matter what he has done."
