حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَبُو عَامِرٍ النَّحْوِيُّ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ قَالَ

عُوَيْمِرٌ لِعَاصِمٍ رَجُلٌ وَجَدَ مَعَ امْرَأَتِهِ رَجُلًا أَيَقْتُلُهُ فَتَقْتُلُونَهُ أَمْ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ؟ سَلْ لِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عنْ ذَلِكَ فَسَأَلَ عَاصِمٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَكَرِهَ الْمَسَائِلَ وَعَابَهَا فَعَظُمَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى عَاصِمٍ وَكَبُرَ فِي نَفْسِهِ فَأَتَاهُ عُوَيْمِرٌ فَقَالَ سَأَلْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ الَّذِي أَمَرْتُكَ بِهِ؟ فَقَالَ لَمْ تَجِئْنِي بِخَيْرٍ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَكَرِهَ الْمَسَائِلَ وَعَابَهَا حَتَّى وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي خَرَجْتُ مِنْ مَالِي وَلَمْ أَسْأَلْهُ شَأْنَكَ بَامْرَأَتِكَ فَأَتَى عُوَيْمِرٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَجُلٌ وَجَدَ مَعَ امْرَأَتِهِ رَجُلًا أَيَقْتُلُهُ فَتَقْتُلُونَهُ أَمْ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ؟ فَقَالَ «قَدْ أَنْزَلَ اللهُ فِيكَ وَفِي صَاحِبَتِكَ فَاعْجَلْ بِهَا» فَقَدَّمَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ وَأَنَا مَعَ النَّاسِ أَنْظُرُ فَتَلَاعَنَا فَلَمَّا فَرَغَا وَقَفَ عُوَيْمِرٌ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ظَلَمْتُهَا إِنْ أَمْسَكْتُهَا فَهِيَ طَالِقٌ الْبَتَّةَ

✧ ‘Uwaymir said to ‘Āṣim, “A man finds another man with his wife—should he kill him and then you would kill him, or what should he do? Ask the Messenger of God ﷺ for me about that.” So ‘Āṣim asked the Messenger of God ﷺ about that, and he disliked such questions and criticized them. This weighed heavily on ‘Āṣim and troubled him deeply. Then ‘Uwaymir came to him and said, “Did you ask the Messenger of God ﷺ about what I told you?” He replied, “You brought me no good. I asked the Messenger of God ﷺ and he disliked such questions and criticized them, until I wished I had given up my wealth and never asked him. It is your affair with your wife.” So ‘Uwaymir went to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of God, a man finds another man with his wife—should he kill him and then you would kill him, or what should he do?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “God has revealed something concerning you and your wife, so bring her quickly.” The Messenger of God ﷺ brought them to the mosque after ‘asr while I was among the people watching, and they performed li‘ān. When they finished, ‘Uwaymir stood before the Messenger of God ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of God, I have wronged her if I keep her—she is divorced irrevocably.”
