حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا عَبْدُ الْقُدُّوسِ بْنُ بَكْرِ بْنِ خُنَيْسٍ ثنا حَجَّاجٌ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو وَالْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ

عَنْ عَمِّهِ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ قَالَا كَانَتْ حَبِيبَةُ بِنْتُ سَهْلٍ تَحْتَ ثَابِتِ بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ شَمَّاسٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ فَكَرِهَتْهُ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا ذَمِيمًا فَجَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي لَأَرَاهُ فَلَوْلَا مَخَافَةَ اللهِ ﷻ لَبَزَقْتُ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَتَرُدِّينَ عَلَيْهِ حَدِيقَتَهُ الَّتِي أَصْدَقَكِ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ فَرَدَّتْ إِلَيْهِ حَدِيقَتَهُ وَفَرَّقَ بَيْنَهُمَا وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ أَوَّلَ خُلْعٍ كَانَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ

Translation

  5. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr And al-Ḥajjāj
  6. Muḥammad b. Sulaymān b. Abū Ḥathmah from his uncle Sahl b. Abū Ḥathmah

✧ From his paternal uncle Sahl b. Abi Hathmah, they both said: Habibah bt. Sahl was married to Thabit b. Qays b. Shammas al-Ansari, and she disliked him, and he was an ugly man. She came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of God, I see him, and were it not for fear of God ﷻ, I would spit in his face.' The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Will you return to him his garden that he gave you as a dowry?' She said: 'Yes.' So he sent for him, and she returned to him his garden, and he separated them. That was the first khul' in Islam.
