al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (al-Tabarani) 5585

✧ Sahl b. Hunayf b. Wahib b. Hakim, also known as Uqaym b. Tha'laba b. Majda'a b. Al Harith b. 'Amr, known as Abu Thabit "Badr'i", died in Kufa, and Ali b. Abi Talib prayed upon him.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الْأَرْزَنِيُّ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ صَدَقَةَ ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ بَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حُجْرَتِهِ إِذْ طَلَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ خَصَائِصِ الْبَيْتِ فَنَظَرَ وَمَعَهُ مِدْرًى فَقَالَ «لَوْ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَنْتَظِرُنِي لَقُمْتُ حَتَّى أُدْخِلُ هَذَا فِي عَيْنَيْكَ فَإِنَّمَا الْإِذْنُ لِيَكُفَّ الْبَصَرَ»

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ: He said: While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in his room, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appeared from a private part of the house and looked, and he had a comb with him. He said: "If I knew that you were waiting for me, I would have come so that I could insert this into your eyes. Permission is only to restrain the gaze."
