al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (al-Tabarani) 5581

✧ Sahl b. Hunayf b. Wahib b. Hakim, also known as Uqaym b. Tha'laba b. Majda'a b. Al Harith b. 'Amr, known as Abu Thabit "Badr'i", died in Kufa, and Ali b. Abi Talib prayed upon him.

حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ وَجُبَارَةُ بْنُ مُغَلِّسٍ قَالَا ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْغَسِيلِ حَدَّثَنِي مَسْلَمَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ غَزَوَاتِهِ فَمَرَّ بِغَدِيرٍ فَاغْتَسَلَ فِيهِ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا حَسَنَ الْجِسْمِ فَمَرَّ بِهِ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ مَا رَأَيْتُ كَالْيَوْمِ وَلَا جَلْدَ مُخَبَّأَةٍ تَعَجُّبًا مِنْ خَلْقِهِ فَلُبِطَ بِهِ وَحُمِلَ مَحْمُولًا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَسَأَلَهُ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِمَا قَالَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ فَقَالَ مَرَّ بِي فُلَانٌ فَقَالَ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا يَمْنَعُ أَحَدُكُمْ إِذَا رَأَى مِنْ أَخِيهِ مَا يُعْجِبُهُ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ أَوْ فِي مَالِهِ أَنْ يُبَرِّكَ عَلَيْهِ فَإِنَّ الْعَيْنَ حَقٌّ»

✧ That he was with the Prophet ﷺ in one of his military expeditions. He passed by a pool and washed himself in it, and he was a man of good physique. A man from the Anṣār passed by him and said, "Never have I seen, as on this day, nor the skin of a secluded maiden," out of admiration for his form. So he was struck down and carried as a stretcher-bearer's burden to the Prophet ﷺ. He asked him, and he informed him of what the Anṣārī had said. He said, "So-and-so passed by me and said such-and-such." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What prevents one of you, when he sees from his brother something that pleases him, regarding himself or his property, from invoking blessing upon him? For indeed, the evil eye is real."
