al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (al-Tabarani) 5580

✧ Sahl b. Hunayf b. Wahib b. Hakim, also known as Uqaym b. Tha'laba b. Majda'a b. Al Harith b. 'Amr, known as Abu Thabit "Badr'i", died in Kufa, and Ali b. Abi Talib prayed upon him.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَاهُ يَقُولُ اغْتَسَلَ سَهْلُ بْنُ حُنَيْفٍ بِالْخَرَّارِ فَنَزَعَ جُبَّةً كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَعَامِرُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ يَنْظُرُ قَالَ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا أَبْيَضَ حَسَنَ الْجِلْدِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَامِرٌ مَا رَأَيْتُ كَالْيَوْمِ وَلَا جَلْدَ عَذْرَاءَ فَوُعِكَ سَهْلٌ مَكَانَهُ وَاشْتَدَّ وَعْكُهُ فَأُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَأُخْبِرَ أَنَّ سَهْلًا قَدْ وُعِكَ وَأَنَّهُ غَيْرُ رَائِحٍ مَعَكَ فَأَتَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَهُ سَهْلٌ الَّذِي كَانَ مِنْ شَأْنِ عَامِرٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «عَلَامَ يَقْتُلُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهُ؟ أَلَا بَرَّكْتَ إِنَّ الْعَيْنَ حَقٌّ تَوَضَّأْ لَهُ» فَتَوَضَّأَ لَهُ عَامِرٌ فَرَاحَ سَهْلٌ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْسَ بِهِ بَأْسٌ

✧ Al-Qaʿnabī narrated to us from Mālik, from Muḥammad b. Abī Umāmah b. Sahl b. Ḥunayf, that he heard his father say: Sahl b. Ḥunayf washed himself at al-Kharrār, and he took off a cloak that was upon him while ʿĀmir b. Rabīʿah was looking. He said: He was a fair-skinned man with beautiful skin. So ʿĀmir said to him, "Never have I seen, as on this day, nor the skin of a virgin." Sahl fell ill on the spot, and his illness became severe. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was approached and informed that Sahl had fallen ill and that he would not be departing with you. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to him, and Sahl informed him of what had happened with ʿĀmir. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "For what reason does one of you kill his brother? Why did you not invoke blessing? Indeed, the evil eye is real. Perform ablution for him." So ʿĀmir performed ablution for him, and Sahl departed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with no harm upon him.
