al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (al-Tabarani) 5566

✧ Sahl b. Hunayf b. Wahib b. Hakim, also known as Uqaym b. Tha'laba b. Majda'a b. Al Harith b. 'Amr, known as Abu Thabit "Badr'i", died in Kufa, and Ali b. Abi Talib prayed upon him.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ سَوْرَةَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ وَأَبُو خَلِيفَةَ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ ثنا الزُّهْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ لَوْنَيْنِ مِنَ التَّمْرِ الْجُعْرُورِ وَلَوْنِ الْحُبَيْقِ» قَالَ وَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَتَيَمَّمُونَ شِرَارَ ثِمَارِهِمْ فَيُخْرِجُونَهَا فِي صَدَقَاتِهِمْ فَنَزَلَتْ {وَلَا تَيَمَّمُوا الْخَبِيثَ مِنْهُ تُنْفِقُونَ}

✧ "The Prophet ﷺ forbade two kinds of dates: al-Juʿrūr and the kind called al-Ḥubayq." He said: People used to select the worst of their dates and give them as charity, so the verse was revealed: {And do not aim toward the defective therefrom, spending [from that]} (2:267).
