al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (al-Tabarani) 5551

✧ Sahl b. Hunayf b. Wahib b. Hakim, also known as Uqaym b. Tha'laba b. Majda'a b. Al Harith b. 'Amr, known as Abu Thabit "Badr'i", died in Kufa, and Ali b. Abi Talib prayed upon him.

حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ وَمُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ قَالَا ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو شُرَيْحٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَهْلَ بْنَ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «لَا تُشَدِّدُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِتَشْدِيدهِمْ عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَسَتَجِدُونَ بَقَايَاهُمْ فِي الصَّوَامِعِ وَالدِّيَارَاتِ»

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Do not be harsh on yourselves, for those before you were destroyed only by their harshness on themselves. You will find their remnants in monasteries and hermitages.”
