حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ

كَانَ بَيْنَ أَبْيَاتِنَا رَجُلٌ مُحْدِجٌ ضَعِيفٌ فَلَمْ يُرَعْ إِلَّا وَهُوَ عَلَى أَمَةٍ مِنْ إِمَاءِ أَهْلِ الدَّارِ يَخْبُثُ بِهَا فَرَفَعَ شَأْنَهُ سَعْدٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «اجْلِدُوهُ مِائَةَ سَوْطٍ» فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هُوَ أَضْعَفُ مِنْ ذَاكَ لَوْ ضُرِبَ مِائَةً مَاتَ قَالَ «فَخُذُوا لَهُ عِثْكَالًا فِيهِ مِائَةُ شِمْرَاخٍ فَاضْرِبُوهُ ضَرْبَةً وَاحِدَةً»

✧ There used to be among our households an epileptic, weak man. The neighborhood was startled only to find him upon a slave woman of the slaves of the household, committing adultery with her. Sa'd raised his matter to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said, “Flog him with a hundred lashes.” He said, “O Messenger of God, he is weaker than that; if he were struck a hundred times he would die.” He said, “Then take for him a palm branch with a hundred twigs and strike him with it once.”
