حَدَّثَنَا إِدْرِيسُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْعَطَّارُ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ

كَانَ بَيْنَ أَبْيَاتِنَا رُوَيْجِلٌ ضَعِيفٌ سَقِيمٌ مُحْدِجٌ فَلَمْ يُرَعِ الْحَيُّ إِلَّا وَهُوَ عَلَى أَمَةٍ مِنْ إِمَائِهِمْ يَخْبُثُ بِهَا فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ سَعْدٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «اضْرِبُوهُ حَدَّهُ» فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا إِنْ ضَرَبْنَاهُ حَدًّا قَتَلْنَاهُ إِنَّهُ ضَعِيفٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «خُذُوا لَهُ عِثْكَالًا فِيهِ مِائَةُ شِمْرَاخٍ فَاضْرِبُوهُ بِهِ ضَرْبَةً وَاحِدَةً»

✧ There used to be among our households a little weak, sickly, epileptic man. The neighborhood was startled only to find him upon a slave woman of their slaves, committing adultery with her. Sa'd mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “Give him his prescribed punishment.” He said, “O Messenger of God, if we give him the prescribed punishment, we will kill him; he is weak.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “Take for him a palm branch with a hundred twigs and strike him with it once.”
