حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ الرِّيَاحِيُّ ثنا عَامِرُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَعْدٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَالَ

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أُرَاهُ قَالَ فِي سَفَرٍ فَنَزَلْنَا مَنْزِلًا فَقَالَ لِي «يَا سَعْدُ اذْهَبْ إِلَى تِلْكَ الْعَنْزِ فَاحْلِبْهَا» وعَهْدِي بِذَلِكَ الْمَكَانِ وَمَا فِيهِ عَنْزٌ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَإِذَا عَنْزٌ حَافِلٌ فَحَلَبْتُهَا قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي كَمْ مِنْ مَرَّةٍ ثُمَّ وَكَّلْتُ بِهَا إِنْسَانًا وَشُغِلْتُ بَالرِّحْلَةِ فَذَهَبَتِ الْعَنْزُ فَاسْتَبْطَأَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «أَيْ سَعْدُ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ الرِّحْلَةَ شَغَلَتْنَا فَذَهَبَتِ الْعَنْزُ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ الْعَنْزَ ذَهَبَ بِهَا رَبُّهَا»

✧ We were with the Messenger of God ﷺ—I think he said on a journey—and we stopped at a place. He said to me, “O Saʿd, go to that she-goat and milk it.” I knew that place and that there was no she-goat there. I went to it and found a she-goat with full udders, and I milked it. He said, I do not know how many times. Then I entrusted it to someone and became busy with the departure, and the she-goat disappeared. The Messenger of God ﷺ thought I was slow and said, “Saʿd?” I said, O Messenger of God, the departure kept us busy and the she-goat disappeared. He said, “The she-goat was taken back by its Lord.”
