✧ Saad b. Ubadah al-Ansari, then al-Khazraji, a follower from Badr and Uhud, a captain, known as Abu Thabit, he stayed in Sham and passed away there.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الرَّازِيُّ ثنا أَبُو زُهَيْرٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَغْرَاءَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كُرَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ
جِئْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ تُوُفِّيَتْ أُمِّي وَلَمْ تُوصِ وَلَمْ تَصَدَّقْ فَهَلْ تُقْبَلُ إِنْ تَصَدَّقْتُ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» قَالَ فَهَلْ يَنْفَعُهَا ذَلِكَ قَالَ «نَعَمْ وَلَوْ بِكُرَاعِ شَاةٍ مُحْتَرِقٍ»

✧ I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said, “My mother died without leaving a will and without giving charity. Will it be accepted if I give charity on her behalf?” He said, “Yes.” I said, “Will it benefit her?” He said, “Yes, even with a burnt sheep’s shank.”
