حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ثنا أَبِي ثنا هَمَّامُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ الثَّقَفِيِّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ أَعْوَرَ مِنْ ثَقِيفٍ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ وَكَانَ

يُقَالُ لَهُ مَعْرُوفٌ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنِ اسْمُهُ زُهَيْرُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ فَلَا أَدْرِي مَا اسْمُهٌ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «الْوَلِيمَةُ أَوَّلُ يَوْمٍ حَقٌّ وَالثَّانِي مَعْرُوفٌ وَالثَّالِثُ سُمْعَةٌ وَرِيَاءٌ»

✧ He was called Ma'ruf; if his name was not Zuhayr b. Uthman, I do not know what it was. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The walimah on the first day is a right, the second is a kindness, and the third is showing off and ostentation.'
