✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent them as scouts to Makkah to inform him of the news of Quraysh. They took the Najdiyya route until when they were at al-Raji' in Najd, Banu Lihyan from Hudhayl intercepted them. As for 'Asim b. Thabit, he fought with his sword until he was killed. As for Khubayb and Zayd b. al-Dathina, they were taken up into the mountain, and the people could not overcome them until they made covenants and pledges to them. So they came down to them, and they bound them tightly, then they took them to Makkah and sold them to Quraysh. As for Khubayb, 'Uqba b. al-Harith b. Nawfal, the brother of Husayn b. al-Harith, bought him, and he shared in his purchase with him Abu Ihab b. 'Aziz b. Qays b. Suwayd b. Rabi'a b. 'Adas b. 'Abd Allah b. Darim. And Qays b. Suwayd b. Rabi'a was the maternal brother of 'Amir b. Nawfal; their mother was the daughter of Nahshal al-Tamimi. And 'Ikrima b. Abi Jahl, al-Akhnas b. Shurnun b. 'Ilaj b. Ghubra al-Thaqafi, 'Ubayda b. Hakim al-Sulami then al-Dhakwani, Umayya b. 'Utba b. Hammam b. Hanzala from Banu Darim and Banu al-Hadrami, Sa'ya b. 'Abd Allah b. Abi Qays from Banu 'Amir b. Lu'ayy, and Safwan b. Umayya b. Khalaf b. Wahb al-Jumahi. They handed him over to 'Uqba b. al-Harith, and he imprisoned him in a house. He stayed with him as long as Allah willed him to stay. A woman from the family of 'Uqba b. al-Harith b. 'Amir used to open the door for him and feed him. He said to her: "When the people intend to kill me, notify me before that." When they intended to kill him, she informed him. He said to her: "Get me a piece of iron with which I can shave my pubic hair." The son of the woman who used to help him entered with a razor in his hand. He took the boy's hand and said: "Has Allah given you power over us?" She said: "This is not what I expected of you." Then he handed her the razor and said: "I was only joking." The people who shared in his purchase took him out, and the people of Makkah went out with them, and they brought out a wooden stake with them until when they were at al-Tan'im, they set up that stake and crucified him on it. The one who was in charge of killing him was 'Uqba b. al-Harith. Abu Husayn was young and was with the people. They killed him in retaliation for al-Harith b. 'Amir, who had been killed on the Day of Badr as a disbeliever. Khubayb said to them at the time of his killing: "Release me from the bonds so that I may pray two rak'ahs." They released him, and he prayed two light rak'ahs, then he turned away and said: "Were it not that you would think I am afraid of death, I would have lengthened them. That is why I made them light." He said: "O Allah, I see no face but the face of an enemy. O Allah, I find no messenger to Your Messenger, so convey my greetings to him." Jibril ﷺ came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him of that. Khubayb said while they were raising him onto the stake: "O Allah, count them by number, kill them one by one, and leave none of them." Khubayb b. 'Adi was killed by the sons of the polytheists who had been killed on the Day of Badr. When they put the weapons in him while he was crucified, they called out to him and adjured him: "Would you like Muhammad to be in your place?" He said: "No, by Allah the Almighty, I would not love to be ransomed by a thorn that pricks him in his foot." They laughed. And Khubayb said when they raised him onto the stake:
