حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ قَالَ

خَرَجَ أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ فِي مَشْهَدٍ لَهُمْ فَإِذَا أَنَا بِرَجُلٍ أَصْلَعَ أَعْسَرَ أَيْسَرَ قَدْ أَشْرَفَ فَوْقَ النَّاسِ بِذِرَاعٍ عَلَيْهِ إِزَارٌ غَلِيظٌ وَبُرْدُ قَطْرٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ هَاجِرُوا وَلَا تَهْجُرُوا وَلَا يَحْذِفَنَّ أَحَدُكُمُ الْأَرْنَبَ بِعَصَاهُ أَوْ بِحَجَرٍ فَيَأْكُلَهَا وَلْيُذَكِ لَكُمُ الْأَسَلُ وَالرِّمَاحُ وَالنَّبْلُ» فَقُلْتُ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالُوا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ

Translation

✧ The people of Madinah went out for a gathering of theirs, and there I saw a bald man, left-handed but using his right, who towered above the people by a forearm's length, wearing a coarse loincloth and a striped cloak, saying: "O people, emigrate and do not abandon, and let none of you throw a stone or stick at a rabbit and then eat it; let spears, lances, and arrows be of service to you." I said, "Who is this?" They said, "Umar b. al-Khattab."
