حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ نَجْدَةَ الْحَوْطِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْوَهْبِيُّ ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ عَمِّي فِي غَزْوَةٍ
فَسَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهَ بْنَ أُبَيٍّ يَقُولُ {لَا تُنْفِقُوا عَلَى مَنْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ حَتَّى يَنْفَضُّوا} مِنْ حَوْلِهِ {لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ} فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعَمِّي فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَدَعَانِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأَرْسَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أُبَيٍّ ابْنِ سَلُولَ وَأَصْحَابِهِ فَحَلَفُوا مَا قَالُوا فَكَذَّبَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَدَّقَهُ وَأَصَابَنِي هَمٌّ لَمْ يُصِبْنِي مِثْلُهُ قَطُّ فَجَلَسْتُ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَقَالَ لِي عَمِّي مَا أَرَدْتَ إِلَّا أَنْ كَذَّبَكَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ومَقَتَكَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {إِذَا جَاءَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ} فَبَعَثَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَرَأَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ قَدْ صَدَّقَكَ»

✧ I heard 'Abd Allah b. Ubayy say, {Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of God until they disperse} from around him. {If we return to Madinah, the more honored will surely expel the more humble from it}. I mentioned that to my uncle, and he mentioned it to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ called me, and the Prophet ﷺ sent for 'Abd Allah b. Ubayy b. Salul and his companions. They swore that they had not said it. The Messenger of God ﷺ disbelieved me and believed him. I was afflicted with distress the like of which had never afflicted me. I sat in the house, and my uncle said to me, 'You only wanted the Prophet ﷺ to disbelieve you and hate you.' Then God ﷻ sent down {When the hypocrites come to you}. The Messenger of God ﷺ sent for me and recited it, then said, 'Indeed God ﷻ has vindicated you.'
