حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَلْمٍ الرَّازِيُّ ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ثنا الْمُحَارِبِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ ثنا سَالِمٌ أَبُو النَّضْرِ عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ
احْتَجَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حُجْرَةً فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي فِيهَا فَرَآهُ رَجُلٌ فَصَلُّوا بِصَلَاتِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَتْ لَيْلَةٌ حَضَرُوهُ وَهُوَ لَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهِمْ فَتَنَحْنَحُوا وَحَصَبُوا الْبَابَ وَرَفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَهُمْ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مُغْضَبًا فَقَالَ «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَا زَالَ بِكُمْ صَنِيعُكُمْ حَتَّى ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ سَتُكْتَبُ فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالصَّلَاةِ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ صَلَاةِ الْمَرْءِ فِي بَيْتِهِ إِلَّا الْمَكْتُوبَةَ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ partitioned off a room in the mosque and used to pray in it. A man saw him and they prayed following his prayer. One night they came while he did not come out to them, so they cleared their throats, threw pebbles at the door, and raised their voices. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to them angry and said: “O people, your persistent action made me think that it would be prescribed. So adhere to praying in your houses, for the best prayer of a man is in his house, except the prescribed prayer.”
