حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلَالٍ عَنْ جَهْمِ بْنِ أَبِي جَهْمٍ أَنَّ أَبَا الزِّنَادِ أَخْبَرَهُمْ أَنَّ خَارِجَةَ بْنَ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ

لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ الَّتِي فِي الْفُرْقَانِ {وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ وَلَا يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ} عَجِبْنَا لِلِينِهَا فَلَبِثْنَا سَبْعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ ثُمَّ نَزَلَتِ الَّتِي فِي النِّسَاءِ {وَمَنْ يَقْتُلْ مُؤْمِنًا مُتَعَمِّدًا فَجَزَاؤُهُ جَهَنَّمُ خَالِدًا فِيهَا وَغَضِبَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَلَعَنَهُ} حَتَّى فَرَغَ

✧ When this verse in al-Furqan was revealed: “And those who do not call upon another god with Allah, nor kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except by right,” we marveled at its leniency. We waited seven months, then the verse in al-Nisa’ was revealed: “And whoever kills a believer deliberately, his recompense is Hell, abiding therein, and Allah’s wrath is upon him and He has cursed him,” until the end.
