حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ وَالْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْمُرَقَّعِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَبَاحِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ قَالَ

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي غَزَاةٍ فَإِذَا النَّاسُ مُجْتَمِعُونَ عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ مَقْتُولَةٍ فَقَالَ «مَا كَانَتْ هَذِهِ تُقَاتِلُ» فَقَالَ «مَنْ عَلَى الْمُقَدِّمَةِ؟» قَالُوا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلًا فَقَالَ «مُرْ خَالِدًا لَا يَقْتُلْ ذُرِّيَّةً وَلَا عَسِيفًا»

Translation

✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a military expedition when the people were gathered around a woman who had been killed. He said: "This woman was not one to fight." Then he said: "Who is in command of the vanguard?" They said: "Khalid b. al-Walid." He sent a man to him and said: "Command Khalid not to kill any child or hired servant."
