حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامِ بْنِ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَا ثنا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ رَبِيعِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَادَ ابْنَ أَخِي جَبْرَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ فَجَعَلَ أَهْلُهُ يَبْكُونَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ جَبْرٌ لَا تُؤْذُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «دَعْهُنَّ فَلْيَبْكِينَ مَا دَامَ حَيًّا فَإِذَا وَجَبَ فَلْيَسْكُتْنَ» فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ مَا كُنَّا نَرَى أنْ يَكُونَ مَوْتُكَ عَلَى فِرَاشِكَ حَتَّى تُقْتَلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَوَ مَا الشَّهَادَةُ إِلَّا فِي الْقَتْلِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ؟ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذَنْ لَقَلِيلٌ إِنَّ الطَّعْنَ وَالطَّاعُونَ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْبَطْنَ شَهَادَةٌ وَالنُّفَسَاءَ بِجُمُعٍ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْحَرَقَ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْغَرَقَ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْهَدْمَ شَهَادَةٌ وذَاتَ الْجَنْبِ شَهَادَةٌ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited the son of Jabar al-Ansari's brother, and his family began weeping over him. Jabar said to them, “Do not annoy the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Leave them; let them weep as long as he is alive, and when death occurs, let them be silent.” Some of them said, “We never thought that your death would be on your bed until you were killed in the path of Allah with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Is martyrdom only in being killed in the path of Allah? The martyrs of my community would then be few. Indeed, plague and pestilence are martyrdom, stomach disease is martyrdom, the woman who dies in childbirth with a child in her womb is martyrdom, burning is martyrdom, drowning is martyrdom, demolition is martyrdom, and pleurisy is martyrdom.”
